Project Lab | Final Presentation
Yesterday Jeroen, Bram, Inja and I held our final presentation for the module Project Lab. For the past few months we’ve been working out a concept for Klankenbos, which is part of Musica. Klankenbos (Forest of Sounds) is series of curated sound installations in the forests of Neerpelt. Below are some pictures of how our concept turned out.

We found out that one of the key problems with Klankenbos was that their branding is not very effective. This turned out to be the biggest opportunity since there are a lot of recreational cyclists passing by all around the forest. With this in mind we came up with the Audioscope; a specially designed augmented reality panorama viewer which is placed on the cycling junctions around the forest. With the Audioscope cyclists are able to ’see through the trees’ into domain of Klankenbos. This is visualised by digital imagery, videos and soundscapes of the sound installations which are layered on top of the actual video stream of the forest edge.
The installation is also accompanied by a smaller motion activated module which alerts passing cyclists of the presence of the installation through a cacophony of cycling bells. The Audioscope itself is placed in front of a big alumnium frame through which onlookers can behold the forest. This frame bears the slogan ‘Kun jij door de bomen het bos nog zien?’ (Can you still see the forest through the trees?)
I had a lot of fun programming the interface and building the different prototypes. I also feel we managed to give a good impression of what our concept is about. I learned a lot about marketing in practice, software and hardware development and group dynamics. You can take a look at our casebook below, unfortunately it’s mostly in Dutch.
