Classroom Intervention: Message Board

Posted May 12th, 2010 in All, Mediatizing by Vincent

Studying at the MDA has been a real eye opener for me so far. I’ve come in contact with a lot interesting material and theories. Most of the modules of the premaster year of CMD are focussing on themes like UCD and social coherense. In Caselab it was about the individual premaster student vs. the teachers and students of the MDA, in the 1%99% project it was about schizophrenic patients vs. the rest of society. In Future Studio about the (lack of a) mutual feeling of social coherence residents of Tuinwijk Genk, and in Play Mobile about the lack of a feeling of involvement between the departments of the MDA. One of the main motto’s of the MDA for me has been the attitude of always trying to improve yourself by learning from your peers. It is this motive combined with my feeling of a lack of xenogamy within our class that has gradually distilled into the the following social experiment.

A few days ago I decided to take matters in my own hands. I bought some black duct-tape with non-corrosive adhesive and snuck into the CMD general purpose classroom (D -1.33). Once there I taped off a 4m x 1,5m wide rectangle on the wall and stuck two A4 pages full of multimedia and art projects I think are cool inside the taped area. I even attached a sheet of Pritt Poster Buddies next to the taped frame to lower the participation threshold. Since the room is being used by all CMD years my target audience isn’t solely my classmates but also the bachelor and master students. Hell, I know for sure the master students have a lot of cool sources and ideas. Ireally hope people pick up the vibe and post their own inspirations.

Play Mobile | First Assignment

Posted May 7th, 2010 in All, Coupling & connecting by Vincent

The first assignment for Play Mobile was to make a game by combining the elements of three categories. Kevin de Mulder and Andrea Wilkinson two of the teachers of this module asked us to think of different kinds of people, objects and games. The resulting answers where written down in these three categories after which every student was appointed one word from each category. The assignment was to combine these three elements into a game in the next half hour.

The next session Claudia and I presented our game. Our ideas had evolved into

The interface of our game
